Poliohni

Poliohni

It is one of the most important settlements of the Aegean area in the 3rd millenium B.C. < BR > Today, it constitutes a completely organised archaeological space, after the interventions of 1994.

The most important Monument of the Archaeological Space is the prehistoric settlement of Poliohni that was founded on a height in the eastern coast of the island. It met many phases of architectural and cultural growth that were attributed by the excavators as follows:
Melanic Era
In its start, the settlement is of limited extent. The buildings belong in ellipsoid huts with large dimensions.
Kyani Era
Progressively a small city is developed. The physiognomy of the settlement changes with the addition of an imposing fortification wall that protects the settlement so much from the hinterland, as from the sea. There are also the first public buildings: space for the assembly of residents and the community barn.
Green and Red Era < B >
Extension of the settlement and manufacture of an addition in the already existing wall. During the Red Era the wall is strengthened by semicircular outworks.
Yellow Era
Relics of this era were searched mainly on the top of the hill. Two paved roads go through the city. In the central building were also revealed big stocking spaces.
Gray and Violet Era
The building relics of the city are meagre.
